Alex Washington Obituary

Alex Antonio Washington, 29, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the University of Virginia Culpeper Medical Center in Culpeper, Virginia.

Born on March 5, 1996, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital to Robert Antonio and Alvita Nicole Washington.  Alex grew up in Culpeper, where he was educated in the Culpeper County school system. From a young age, Alex demonstrated a love for creativity and technology, with graphic design capturing his early interest. He went on to pursue higher education at Strayer University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology/Cyber Security.

After graduation, Alex brought his talents to the professional world, working at BasisPath, Inc. in Germantown, Maryland. His skills and dedication led him to a role at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in Springfield, Virginia. Ambitious and full of dreams, Alex often spoke of his dream to move to Texas or Florida.

A man of faith, Alex was baptized at an early age and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Rixeyville, Virginia. His spiritual foundation was evident in the way he treated others - with kindness, respect, and unconditional love. He held his faith close and lived a life grounded in love, compassion, and humility.

Alex had a wide range of interests. He loved fast cars and driving, fishing, gaming, building  custom gaming computers, participating in gaming competitions, and listening to music. Quiet by nature, Alex’s warm smile, contagious laughter,  and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.  If you needed anything - whether you asked or not - he would find a way to help.  He gave selflessly and loved deeply.

He was known by many nicknames - Atown, Babycakes, Jello Man, Al, Big Al, Nutz - the one that best captured his essence was “Gentle Giant.”

Quiet and humble, Alex had a radiant smile that could light up a room and a heart full of compassion. He never spoke ill of anyone and gave generously - if he heard you wanted something, chances are he’d find  a way to get it for you. He was incredibly intelligent, often modestly claiming, “I don’t think so,” when asked to fix something - only to return with it    perfectly repaired.  His humility, heart of gold, and love for  others made him unforgettable.

Alex deeply loved children and shared a special bond with his great cousins Avontae, Jameson, Faith, Jaicere, and his beloved godson. He held a particularly close relationship with cousins Brittany Mack-Sims, Jason and Jordyn Washington, who brought him joy throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Dorothy Banks; paternal grandfather Robert Long; paternal great-grandparents Lewis and Affie Washington and Zula Long; maternal great-grandparents Matthew and Margaret Banks, Wilson and Alice Banks; uncle Byron Washington; great aunts Brenda Faye Mack and Evelyn Stanton; great uncles Raymond (Pauline) Banks, Hurley Banks Sr., Matthew Banks, Milton Banks, and Lewis M. Washington; and cousins Gene Anthony “Tony” McCabe, James Henry “Jamie” Mack Jr, and Vicki Banks.

In addition to his loving parents,  Alex leaves to cherish his memory his loving brother, Michael D. Washington; grandmother, Delphine Washington; grandfather, Rudolph Banks; aunts April Bailey (Maxwell), Anita Preston (Floyd), all of Culpeper, Virginia and Nikita Long (Crystal) of Indianapolis,  Indiana; uncle Anthony Banks (Cheryl); great aunts, Mildred McCabe (Gene) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Rosemary Banks, Sandra Washington, Barbara Lewis (Russell), Pearl Long, Pamela Stanton, Robin Stanton, Annette Tyler(John), Jeanette Hunt(Leon), Barbara Washington all of  Culpeper,   Virginia;  Agnes Moore  (Marshall), Elaine Douglas  and Ethel Corbin  (Terry) of  Manassas, Virginia; great uncles, Nathaniel Banks, Richard Banks (Diane), Woodrow Banks Sr.(Paula), Marshall Banks,  Larry Banks, Lorenzo Banks Sr. (Geneva), James Stanton, Samuel Long, and Clyde Long all of  Culpeper, Virginia.

He is also remembered by his godmother Veronica Brown; godfathers Brian Marlowe and  Desmond Bowles; and cherished friends Olajuwon Campbell, and Ishon Butler, in addition to a host of cousins and friends.

Alex touched countless lives with his selflessness, gentleness, humor, and warmth. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he lived a life filled with love, full of faith, and generosity. His memory will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
