Charles E. Newman

Charles Edward Newman Sr. 65 of Orange, Virginia passed away at his residence in May 2024. Charles was born on August 12, 1958 to the late Robert Thompson Sr. and Mary Katherine Newman. Charles was the fifth child of eleven maternal siblings.

Charles dedicated his life to hard work and service. He wore many hats to include working on vehicles, being a truck driver, concrete mason, and construction work, he also enjoyed being a woodchuck. Beyond his full-time employment, Charles was a skilled mechanic and loved to restore old vehicles. He could fix anything with an engine in it and was always ready to lend a hand to friends and family. His passion for cars and racing was evident in his conversations and hobbies. Whether tinkering with engines or discussing race cars, he was full of joy.

Charles was strong willed and would help everybody he could. He had a passion for cooking and feeding those around him. He was known for his great tasting potato salad and a variety of delicious cakes. His strong work ethic, mechanical expertise, and love for cars and cooking will be remembered by all who knew him.

Charles knew The Lord and in his early years he attended Upper Zion Baptist Church, Jeffersonton, Virginia.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Thompson Sr. and Mary Katherine Newman, His second wife, Vivian J. Newman, his sister Kathleen Marie Newman, and his brother William Sylvester Newman.

Charles leaves to cherish his memories: his first wife: Rev. Judy Johnson (kid’s mother). His children: daughter: LaWanda Mack (LaShaun) of Dumfries, VA, and son Charles “[Chuckie]” Newman Jr. (Crissy) of Warrenton, VA. His grandchildren: Micah, Mykiah, Arianna, LaShaun II, Kyle, and Malik. Great Grandchild Anyla.

Charles’ maternal siblings are Betty Ann Jones (Mack) of Rocky Mount, NC, Mary Elizabeth “[Bessie]”

Bassoff (Russell) of Hagerstown, MD, Esther Rebecca “[Sister]” Newman of Memphis, TN, Alice Leticia Newman of Jurupa, CA, Yvonne Beatrice “[Bea]” Newman of Culpeper, VA; David Lee Newman (Lynn) of Adelanto, CA, Helen Christine Carter of Douglasville, GA; James Henry “[Jamie]” Newman (Amy) of Laurel, MD.

Charles’ paternal siblings are Barbara Thompson, Victoria Wright, Robert Thompson Jr., David Thompson, Marshall Thompson, Virginia “[Tina]” Thompson, and Brian Thompson.

Charles’ extended family includes several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Charles had many many friends, too many to name here however, we would like to also recognize his dear friend Joyce Lee whose support was appreciated during his final chapter.

Memorial service for Charles Newman will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 starting at 11:00 AM at Horizon Funeral Home - 750 Old Brandy Rd, Culpeper, VA 22701
