Denise Turner Obituary

Denise Thaxton Turner gained her wings January 4, 2024, at Inova Hospital in Fairfax Virginia.

Denise was the daughter of John and Isabell T. McCloud. She grew up in New Kensington, Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining Immanuel Christian Ministries, Denise was baptized at Disciples of Christ Ministries of Culpeper VA.

Denise’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She along with her husband Maurice would travel to Pennsylvania to celebrate with them during holidays and special occasions.

Denise also enjoyed sharing her gift of hospitality with her church family. Denise could be considered to be a “Foodie,” who loved to cook and see others enjoy her culinary delights.

She served as the director of the Hospitality Ministry for many years as a disciple of Immanuel Christian Ministries. Denise also was a member of the Women’s Ministry.

In addition, Denise was an avid student of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the doctrines of Christian faith. Denise enrolled in the Center for Lifelong Learning and Leadership Evans-Smith Leadership Training Program of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University.  As a result of her commitment and completed studies, Denise was conferred a Certificate in Religious Studies on May 27, 2017.

As a disciple of Immanuel Christian Ministries, Denise answered her call to the Christian Ministry as a Deacon. After her study, and preparation for the office of Deacon, Denise was ordained as a Deacon on February 4th, 2017.  She served faithfully in that office and work.

Always continuing to study and develop as a Christian, Denise completed training in Spiritual Gifts and received a certificate of completion on June 29, 2019.

Even as her health began to fail her, Denise continued coming to worship, and worshiped with a joyful attitude pulling various musical instruments from a little black bag. Denise also delivered several thought provoking and challenging sermons during Sunday worship services. Denise was a true worshiper!

Denise was preceded in death by both parents, her daughters Wanda McCloud, and Felicia Samuels, her brothers Charles Henry Thaxton, Ralph McCloud, and William McCloud.

Denise is survived by her husband of 41 years Maurice Turner, her daughter Wendy Hughes, her sister Patricia Hughes (Milton), Her brother Dan McCloud, her father in law Bradley Turner, her sister in law Cheryl Turner, her brother in law Alonso Turner (Pat), eleven grandchildren, and twenty nine great grandchildren. Denise is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved church family of Immanuel Christian Ministries.
