Effie Lee Tyler

Effie Lee Tyler, known as “Betty” was born on April 18, 1951 to the late Effie Washington-Tyler and Oliver Kenneth Tyler, Sr. She departed her life for higher ground on October 23, 2023 at UVA Culpeper Medical Center.

Effie spent many years babysitting, she loved kids. She also worked at Burger King for about 8 years until her health started to decline in 2013. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, sitting outside on the porch or at the picnic table with her sister, washing her car, and playing cards. When she wasn’t sitting outside you could find her in the house cooking.  Everyone loved her meatballs! She also enjoyed listening to music and dancing to her favorite artists; Pokey Bear and King George.  Effie was a joy of light that could make anyone laugh or smile, she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.

Effie was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Mary White, Frances Washington, Ellen Jackson, and Augusta “Ann” Tyler; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; one daughter-in-law (Brenda Tyler); two nieces; four nephews; one great-great niece; and one great-great nephew.

Effie leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons; George Tyler (Joanne Tyler) and Rodney Tyler of Culpeper; and a loving daughter Pamela White (Lemont Tibbs) of Batna. In addition, she leaves to cherish her memory, one brother Oliver Kenneth Tyler, Jr. (Lillian Tyler), and one sister Edna Tyler.  She leaves her sweet and loving grandchildren; Jalisa, Tyiesha, Corliss, Latoya, Del’quann, Chrissy, Shawnae, Davonte, Juanita, Latisha, Rellie, Antonio, and Thomas.  Along with her precious great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.  Effie leaves Robert Tibbs and Andy Barber, who she thought of as special sons and a very special friend; Chicken.

Effie’s life has had an impact on all who knew and loved her.  She was a true mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  Effie will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Horizon Chapel - 750 Old Brandy Rd, Culpeper, VA .  Family Visitation starts at 11:00 AM and Funeral Service starts at 12:00 noon.
