Elizabeth Louise Smith, 79, went peacefully to her eternal home on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the home of her nephew, David Tibbs in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was a strong and courageous woman that fought a good fight during her illness. She was the wife of the late Floyd Smith and out of seventeen children, she was born the tenth child to the late Charles and Fannie Wormley Tibbs on April 19, 1946, in Culpeper County, Virginia. She lived with her sister Jean Easter in the house of their great grandfather, Rev. Wanzer Jackson Tibbs, built in the FLATS in the 1800s. The house was demolished in the early 1990s and was replaced by a trailer home. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her paternal/maternal great grandparents Rev. Wanzer and Margaret Wilson Tibbs and Robert and Emma Dinkins Wormley; grandparents, Charlie and Mary Davies Tibbs, two sons, Robert Edward Smith and William Smith, seven brothers, Daniel Tibbs, Fred Tibbs, Henry Douglas Tibbs, Haywood Tibbs, Clifford Tibbs, Frank Tibbs and Charlie Tibbs, Jr., three sisters, Mildred Minor, Jean Easter and Clara Thompson.
Elizabeth was educated in the Culpeper County Public School System. She was a particularly good Care provider that loved what she did, she was employed with the Culpeper Health & Rehabilitation Center for 13 years. Elizabeth continued to pursue taking care of her mother and grandmother until their death. In the 1980s she took care of Mollie Beck until her death in 2001.
Elizabeth joined Free Union Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorate of the late Rev. R. L. Banks and re-dedicated her life under Rev. Dr. Calvin E. Lawrence, Sr. During her illness she listened to service on Facebook, but she wanted to be in the present of the congregations, so she had her son, Kevin to push her to church in the wheelchair every Sunday until her health declined and she would repeatedly ask her nephew, Randolph “Did you pay my Tithes”. Her hobbies were watching western movies, game shows, shopping from catalogues and reading the daily bread. She loved being around her family. Her health was beginning to decline so she was blessed with several devoted caregivers to take care of her, Randolph Tibbs, Jerome Lewis, Christine Nibblins, Dorthea Campbell, Alicia Cottoms, Kevin (her son) and Gloria Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memories two sons: Kent Smith and Kevin (Neal) Chapman, one godson Brandon Dinkens of Kansas City, three sisters Margaret Orange of Winchester, VA; Mary Smith of Culpeper, VA and Christine (Eddie) Nibblins of Reva, VA; three brothers, Eugene Tibbs of Culpeper, VA, Andrew (Sandy) Tibbs of Landover, Maryland and Lawrence (Joyce) Tibbs of Rapidan, VA; five devoted nephews, Randolph Tibbs, Donell Easter, Jerome Lewis, RJ Wise and David S. Tibbs, two devoted nieces Jessica Easter and Jackie Gordon; four sisters-in-law Stella Tibbs, Bernice Brown of Burke, VA, Cathy Smith and Bessie Day (Rudy) of Locust Grove, VA, three brothers-in-laws Sammy (Lorraine) Smith of Culpeper, Daniel Smith of Fredericksburg and Bill Smith; a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends and a very special cousin, Dr. Hortense Hinton Jackson of Maryland.
