Gladys was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on April 29th, 1929. At an early age her family moved and relocated to Greenwich, Connecticut where they worked as domestic workers & chauffeurs.
In 1936, her mother Beatrice Moore, opened her own restaurant and bar which became a well-known establishment in West Chester County, New York.. This was the beginning of Gladys’ entrepreneurial spirit. While working as a barmaid, Gladys began studying real estate and bought her first property in 1953.
At the peak of her success she owned over 15 properties in West Chester County, New York. Gladys maintained these properties until her illness and subsequent move to Culpeper, Virginia to live with her daughter.
Gladys was preceded in death by her loving Mother Beatrice, four wonderful brothers; Leonard, Herman, Benjamin and Stanley, two loving Sisters; Iantha Brock and Virginia Satchell.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and caring daughter Vilma and Husband Grant, grand-daughter Phyllis Hollingsworth, husband Darryl, a very special friend Helen Nelson and a host of nephews and nieces.
As our family’s Matriarch, Gladys was known as a hardworking, stern person with an exceedingly kind heart. We will love and miss her dearly.
