Jerald “Jerry” L. Swanson, age 82, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Though Colorado was home in his later years, Jerry spent much of his life in Washington and Arizona, where he built a life marked by service, humor, and a generous spirit.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSGT). Deeply patriotic throughout his life, he held great respect for all who served. At Springs Ranch Memory Care, whenever a fellow veteran passed and taps were played, Jerry would rise from his wheelchair—sometimes with great effort—to offer a final salute. It was his quiet, steadfast tribute to those who served beside him in spirit.
After his military career, Jerry worked for Boeing, where he built lasting friendships and contributed his expertise until retirement. He later spent time volunteering at a lighthouse on the Washington coast, taking pride in sharing its history with visitors.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rischa J. Swanson, his longtime companion and partner in life.
He is survived by his sister Joyce; his brothers Johnny and Joey; and his brother-in-law Norm. He is also survived by his children and their families: Tammy and her husband Martin, and their children Rene’, Jaqueline, and Marcel; Patrick, his wife Christiane, and their daughter Emily; Timmy; George and his wife Lisa, and their children Riley, Brooke, McKenzie, and Destiny; and Debbie and her husband Fred, and their son Michael; Kathy and her husband Ken and her children Josh and Shane.
He is also lovingly remembered by his great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were part of his larger family circle.
Those who knew Jerry will remember him for his warm and lively personality. He was full of humor, always ready with a joke, a funny story, or a song, whether remembered or made up on the spot. His lighthearted spirit, kindness, and ability to create joy stayed with him throughout his life.
In his final years, Jerry resided at Springs Ranch Memory Care, where he was embraced with extraordinary kindness. The staff cared for him with genuine affection. They treated him like family and embraced his playful spirit every day. His loved ones extend their deepest gratitude to the entire Springs Ranch team for the compassion and dignity they showed him.
Jerry’s legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the stories he shared, and the love he gave. He will be remembered with profound affection and gratitude.
A memorial service of remembrance will be held at Springs Ranch Memory Care on January 21 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception featuring Jerry’s favorite treats.
Jerry will be laid to rest with his wife, Rischa, in the Arizona National Cemetery. The internment service will be on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 1:30 P.M. at the National Memorial Cemetery 2929 Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024. Military Honors will be performed by Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard.
