In cherished remembrance of Maxine Hamilton, who peacefully departed this life on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the age of 91.
Born in Fayette, Texas on March 5, 1932, Maxine left an indelible mark on the hearts of many through her unwavering spirit and noteworthy accomplishments. Commencing her education at Carmine School District 4 in Texas, she later earned her high school diploma and cosmetology license in Virginia.
Maxine's professional journey encompassed diverse roles, culminating in the ownership of a celebrated beauty shop known for nurturing women's hair health. A beacon of self-sufficiency, she imparted the values of hard work and perseverance to her children, fostering their ability to build wealth.
Deaconess Hamilton dedicated decades of service to Shiloh Baptist Church. She lavished her grandchildren with love and wisdom. Devoted to her guilty pleasures of television and word-find puzzles, Maxine has preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Jake and Udora Benford, siblings Lawrence Jr, Barbra Jean Benford, Don Ray Earthman, and husband, John Samuel Hamilton.
She is survived by siblings Edward Lee and Doris Elaine Earthman, five children Lois Goodall (Ray), Verna Henderson (Curtis), Wilbur Jerome Benford (Arlene), Antinett Hamilton, and Lawrence Hamilton (Beverly), nine grandchildren Denise Reaves (John), Franklin Smith (Dana), Ray Goodall Jr (Dolores), Barry Smith (Vicky), Jerrold Benford, Stephanie O’Dwyer (Patrick), Brandon Hamilton, and Kristopher Benford, eighteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Maxine also leaves behind cherished friends Carolyn Lacey, Eulamae Goffney, and Josephine West, along with a host of other loving family members and friends. Her profound impact on our lives and the community ensures that Maxine will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Funeral Services will be held at Horizon Funeral Home on Friday, February 16, 2024; Visitation 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM, Funeral Service 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Burial will be held in the Culpeper National Cemetery on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
