Michael Washington Obituary

Deacon Michael Lee Washington gained his wings June 15, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.  Michael grew up in Occoquan Virginia.

Michael was the son of George and Elizabeth Washington.  Michael joined the United States Army 11/30/67 and was honorably discharged 7/10/72.  He was a proud Vietnam veteran. He served as a chef and would often share delightful stories of his tour of duty. He was always on duty in the kitchen at his church preparing meals for the community at Thanksgiving.

After an honorable discharge from the Army, Michael began a career in the concrete business both in Florida and Virginia for over 40 years.

Michael’s greatest joy was spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He was a caring and nurturing individual who loved children. He even prepared and delivered a special sermon for the children of his church.  Michael was such a caring individual that he moved one of his sisters to Culpeper and became her caretaker until she transitioned.

After joining the fellowship of Immanuel Christian Ministries, Michael answered his call to the ministry and was ordained as a deacon. Michael served faithfully for over a decade in that position. He also served as a trustee, and a member of the Men’s Ministry.  Michael was a true warrior for the Lord.

Michael was very active and dedicated to his church, and would gladly take on any task when asked.

After joining Immanuel Christian Ministries, Michael after encouragement by co-pastor Branch, enrolled in the Evans-Smith Leadership Training Program of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology/Virginia Union University. He excelled in his studies and was awarded his first certificate on May 23, 2015. Due to his excellence performance, Michael continued in the program and received additional higher levels of training in Christian Education.

Even as his health began to fail him, Michael continued coming to worship and giving stirring testimonies about the goodness and grace of God. He was always upbeat and spread so much joy to the congregation.  He would always end his testimony with “That’s my testimony and I’m sticking to it!”

Michael also delivered several challenging sermons, and one or more of his daughters would always be in attendance. Michael was a true worshipper. His kind, Christian, and gentle spirit will surely be missed by his church family and all who knew and love him.

Michael was preceded in death by both parents, his brothers George Washington, Anthony Washington, Reginal Washington, Ronnie Washington, Vernon Washington, and his sister Anna Johnson.

Michael is survived by his sister Shirley Johnson, his devoted daughters Tiffany Tyler, Cassondra Head, Danielle Keesecker, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his beloved Immanuel Christian Ministries Church Family, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Horizon Funeral Home starting at 1:00 P.M.
